According to the latest statistical data from the China Construction Machinery Industry Association, in February 2024, the sales market of excavators in China experienced a significant decline, with a total of 12608 excavators sold, a year-on-year decrease of up to 41.2%. This number highlights the severe situation of the current construction machinery market, while also reflecting the impact of the overall economic environment on the machinery industry.
Specifically, the sales of excavators in the domestic market have also shown a downward trend. In February, domestic sales of 5837 excavators decreased by 49.2% year-on-year, which is much greater than the overall market. This data indicates that under the influence of multiple factors such as the slowdown in domestic infrastructure construction investment and the regulation of the real estate market, the demand for excavators continues to be sluggish.
Despite poor performance in the domestic market, the export market has maintained relatively stable growth. In February, the export volume of excavators from China was 6771 units, a year-on-year decrease of 32%. Although there was also a certain degree of decline, it performed slightly better than the domestic market. This also reflects that Chinese excavators still have certain competitiveness in the international market, but also face uncertainty in the global trade environment.
Based on the cumulative data from the first two months of this year, the downward trend in the excavator sales market is more pronounced. From January to February 2024, China sold a total of 24984 excavators, a year-on-year decrease of 21.7%. Among them, domestic sales of 11258 units decreased by 24.6% year-on-year; Export sales of 13726 units decreased by 19.1% year-on-year. This trend shows that it is difficult for the excavator market to break free from a downturn in the short term, and the industry needs to further seek new growth points.
Industry experts point out that the decline in the excavator market is closely related to the current macroeconomic environment. With the adjustment and transformation of the domestic economic structure, the growth rate of infrastructure construction investment has slowed down, and the regulatory policies in the real estate market continue, resulting in insufficient demand for construction machinery such as excavators.
